When I start up my TT GO 730 and connect to my computer, lately, I'm getting weird messages.

After clicking on Internal (and not my SD card), it says:

"Application update Required - Please click 'Update my device' to get the latest TomTom application."

I already have the latest application, version 8.351. So why does it tell me I don't and need to update every time?

When I click "Update my device" the screen drops down again to ask me which to update, Internal or my SD card, but before I can click on one, the screen goes back up and the scan starts.

After scanning, it says, "Your Device is up-to-date. Click 'Back' to go to the main menu" and "No items available."

(Not to mention the "New versions of your map are available" constant message, which I've learned to mostly ignore.)

Is this just another new bug introduced by the 8.351 application?

And another strange thing... when I "Operate my GO" from HOME, I now get "This functionality is not yet supported for your combination of navigation device, your device's application version and your computer's operating system."

It used to work! Grrr...

Have you tried it with the SD card removed?

I removed the card, and it wouldn't start up without doing a pin reset.

Now when I try to Operate my GO from Home it said "Downloading needed file"

After installing this file, Operate my GO worked.

I wonder if some wrong files go onto my SD card? I think originally I had only put my mp3s there, but now there are a few other files as well.

This is the reason I like to keep ALL of my files (Map, voices, NavCore) on the SD memory card rather than splitting them between internal and external memory devices. Many users normally don't have problems running it in the split configuration though. I'm not sure what happened there in your case

I tend to only put media files on the internal memory.

Hmmm, I had not considered doing that. I assumed internal memory is faster for the map redraw as you're driving.

It seems that without the SD card, map redraw is faster than with it. When I approach an intersection, "turn left" comes a little before the intersection without the SC card, and pretty much at the intersection with the SD card.

The difference is not critical, but it has made my friends laugh. Has anyone else noticed this difference?

I suppose having to access more memory would slow it down a little. I have a 4GB SD card.

I can try swapping the files, putting everything on the SD card, and my mp3 file on internal memory. Can I just do it with the computer and forget about HOME?

It is recommended that you use a high speed SDHC card, not a normal cheapy one, according to TomTom. I have no difference in speeds when using my SDHC card.

Tomtom will attempt to boot up to the SD card's application first, and then if it doesn't find the application, it will boot up to the internal memory.

You probably have some application files sitting around on your SD card that HOME isn't properly removing. Your best bet is to clear all of them out.

1) First do a explorer (not HOME) backup of the SD card
2) Turn on show hidden/system files in Windows
3) Then delete every file/folder on the card, except for mp3, North_America_2gb (if present), and maps (if present).

Then you should be able to pop in the SD for music (or maps) with no issues.

App 8.35x slowed down the SD reader for me, specifically when writing information (the last step in preparing a route). I have found speedier performance if the application and maps are on the internal instead. Unlike sage, I use a 2gb SD, perhaps Tomtom optimized the reader for SDHC, and SD cards were the only ones to slow down.

I put everything on the internal, and just leave my mp3's on the SD.
