TomTom Model(s)
XXL 540TM, VIA 1625TM
Hi,
I recently 'upgraded' from an old XXL 540 that used Tomtom Home because map upgrades are no long supported. Very good interface, and maintainable poi's. Bought Via 1625 TM on Amazon-very disappointed. Planning to return. Question: is there a TomTom Home based device that uses RDS-TMC and has SD card expansion?

There are no devices currently being built that do that, no.
However, current devices handle POI (via the new MyDrive cloud interface), and some do offer RDS capability, though you'd probably be happier with the Live traffic data. Covers many more streets with greater accuracy.

I saved old XXL 540 favorites into 3 poi files I created on XXL and copied to my laptop. I tried to open them in Extra_POI_Editor 6.04, and got error message 'invalid or unsupported ov2 file'. Any ideas about problem and how to overcome?

Haven't used that editor, so can't say.
Try another editor like POIEdit (available here >> http://www.poiedit.com/downloads.htm ) and see if things improve.
If that opens it, you're good to go. If not, and you're willing to share the problematic *.ov2 files, I can have a look at them here.

If you've got your *.ov2 files functioning, then it's a matter of using the MyDrive Web cloud tool at TT to do the transfer. You place the files into your cloud account and they are transmitted to these newer models automatically.
