I have an XXL540s and was hoping to buy the $99 Lifetime update that has been "Coming soon" for around six months. I had the one year deal but that expired with v860 and, now that v865 is current it would cost $178 to first make the map current and then buy any Lifetime offer that becomes real. It will now be better to just buy a new device that comes with Lifetime and to get something back on the old one via Fleabay.

BTW does anyone in TomTom know how to count? That Lifetime teaser at TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - TomTom Maps - Shop says "4 Map updates per year" and also "New editions are issued every four months." Thank you TomTom for bringing us the 16 month year :)

That $178 came from one Single Map Download ($79.95) plus the vaporware Lifetime Map Update Service ($99.95). And that deal should be available at any time, even after I no longer qualify to buy a single version discounted upgrade.

Now that I've connected through Home I find a new offer: Discounted Upgrade to the latest map ($8.95) plus TomTom Map Update Service, 12 Months (4 New maps) ($51.80). Total (items can not be purchased separately) $60.75.

That would work out at $160.70, and so cheaper than the $178, if the "coming soon" Lifetime became available within those 12 months, but it would certainly be more expensive in total if "soon" were to arrive later.

I still don't understand your math! :confused::confused:

You say this:
Now that I've connected through Home I find a new offer: Discounted Upgrade to the latest map ($8.95) plus TomTom Map Update Service, 12 Months (4 New maps) ($51.80). Total (items can not be purchased separately) $60.75.

Then this:
That would work out at $160.70

I think you are misunderstanding what you are seeing.......

Those offers are mutually exclusive. You DON'T have to make a single map purchase to take part in the Map Subscription series for 1 year.

Clicking on the "Map Update Service: 1 Year" link brings up Home and them the only offer for or including a 1 year service is that two-part $60.75 one. Apparently the $39.95 subscription is not available when one's current map is non-current.

Anyway, that's all that is now being offered to me.

If you believe that to be wrong then I can try to place an order by telephone next week and see whether I can get a better offer from a human bean (TomTom being close to Bean Town).

I think I may have found the problem. We were both reading that offer as saying that Map Updates for 1 Year cost $39.95. Well it doesn't say that. What is actually says is Map Updates for 1 Year for as little as $39.95. $39.95 may indeed be their price of the 1 year service for their cheapest map but apparently the service for the USA, Canada and Mexico map is higher.
