VR

If you had the VR working before the update (and I assume you have updated to 8.x), then do the following:
1) create a file "support_asr.dat" with just the value '1' in it (without quotes, dont hit enter key either.
To create this file, open notepad.exe in Windows. Type '1' (without quotes). Dont hit enter key also. Go to 'File->Save As' in the notepad menu. Change the 'Save As' type to 'All Files'. Then enter "support_asr.dat" in the file name box (with the quotes) and hit 'Save' button. If the double quote is not used when saving the file notepad would add a .txt extension to the file and it would not work.
2) Connect the TT to the PC and power up. Close Home if it is running.
3) Copy the support_asr.dat file to the 'ASR' folder in TT using Windows Explorer (TT would show up as a drive in Windows once it is connected).
4) Disconnect the TT from the computer (Follow safe disconnect procedures, like you would disconnect a USB drive). Do a PIN reset of the TT and check if you have VR working again.

I also have attached the support_asr.dat file in a zip file. Extract the file and copy it to the 'ASR' folder in TT.

If VR was not working earlier also then you might need to get the speech files for the map version that you have.

This information and more are available in a lot of posts in here. Look at the first post in the sticky (with heading 'Voice Recognition on 720') and it has more information on the VR.

Why do you have to go through all of that just because you got an update?
Updates aren't suppose to get rid of things, they are suppose to make things better! Last time I'll get an update!

Well, you would think so would you? There seems to have been more stuff broken than have been fixed with recent updates. These TomTom programmers must have been 'C' students. I don't have your problem but I had to fall back to the older version software to get mine to work correctly (also older vers. of HOME).

Why not try what 'ar1979' suggested? It's worked for others.

I'm not going to go through all of that for something I never used, or need, but it's ridiculous how thet can even put out updates that bad. Must not be any testing of the updates before they put it up for download!

If you didn't want to try what was suggested why ask the question?

Perhaps because voice recognition was never intended to be included in the GO 720 that was sold here in the US. If you weren't supposed to have it, then why can't TomTom take it away? ;)
