VR Driving me insane...

I have tried everything I can find in a search to get the VR activated. I don't even have the icons for VR. Any help would be appreciated.
It seems everyone else has the icons even if they are grayed out. I've placed the support_asr.dat file in the asr file and still have nothing.

Well, let's take it in steps......

Confirming your values, when you touch the satellite bars on your unit, a screen appears showing the version number of the firmware. And it DOES say 7.481? (7.480 killed VR).

If you tap the screen showing the version once more, it does the map version. This DOES say NA 7.10?

If the above 2 items are true, do you have a computer voice selected?

Please report back with your findings.

Okay, when you created the support_asr.dat file, are you sure it didn't have an extension of .txt as in support_asr.dat.txt? (In other words, Windows is set to show hidden file extensions.

And the file is only the '1' with no quotes and is placed in the asr folder on your unit?

And have you tried with a computer voice? And have you tried a pin reset for about 10 seconds?

I turned off the hidden file extensions to be sure that wasn't the issue.
I opened notepad typed only the number 1 and saved as support_asr.dat the asr folder.
If did a pin reset but didn't hold it for 10 seconds, probably more like 3.
like I said, i can't even get icons to show up. Oh and yeas i set it to a computer voice.

And, finally........you are looking for the icons when you go navigate to-->address--> you don't see spoken address and a spoken address (dialog) icon (even greyed out?) in the bottom row?

Did VR work at any time with an earlier firmware? You may want to revert back to 7.221. I don't know what else to suggest.

all the files in the asr folder show up as nero media player files. Does that sound correct?

Which icons don't u have?
If you go to Navigate, then address, and u don't see the spoken address options on the next page, then the support_asr.dat file is wrong or bad. This file lets u view the VR options even if u do not have the map with the cspeech files.
I've attached the .dat file. just unzip it to your asr folder.

Well I'm getting closer... I switched back to version 7.22 and put the folder in and I have the icons in color but when I use them it goes to the keyboard. The mouth icon next to the back button stays grey. and nothing happens if I speak into the tt. Ideas?

As both Pedro and I mentioned, think there is something iffy about the support_asr.dat file you are using.

Pedro provided one in his message. Did you download it and put it in the asr folder on the unit?

I'm using the one from the post. That's when the icons appeared.. before i had nothing.

if u see the icons and it doesn't let u speak, continue using the keyboard until u reach the address section.
lets see if it allows u to use the voice funtion there.

This is bloody frustrating. I can't help but thinking that there is just one more question I should be asking about the setup but don't know what it might be. We KNOW that VR should be working!

If I tap the "Spoken Address" icon it immediatly beeps and the screen flashes "One moment Please" and another screen comes up immediatly that says "please state City" If nothing is spoken then the screen changes to the keyboard after about 12 seconds. If your unit does all this Maybe your microphone is not working.

I tried that, and your right... once I got to the house number it did prompt me to speak the it. But when I spoke it didn't respond at all. the area up in the corner around the mouth stayed yellow if that means anything.

Well, being yellow is better than greyed out. A different tact: in preferences--voice preference-->record voice, try to record something just to confirm microphone works. If it does, go back to the street number screen and try again, speak clearly, try closer to the unit, a little further away....and make sure the microphone hole isn't being blocked.

Sounds like the map file maybe missing the cspeech files. Check your map to make sure they are there.
