I'm trying to get voice recognition working, TomTom Home tells me I have the latest maps and latest version firmware. This problem only occurs on Western European maps and works ok in the USA. The option for the voice recognition appears on the screen but is greyed out. Any solutions ?
Thanks

Check using Explorer whether the WE map folder contains cspeechxx.dat files, one for each country. There are others who report that, if a NA unit, only the .dat files for NA are present but not the WE ones.

There are no cspeech files in the folder. I've checked the USA maps and there are cspeech files in that folder. Is there anywhere i can download the cspeech files for Western and Central Europe?

I knew that was coming!

You have not said what version your maps are, 7 or 8.

Anway, you may have the files on your hard drive.

Look in the download directory that TomTom uses (set in TomTom Home). It probably looks like this: C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\map\WesternEurope

You should see a zipped file called WesternEurope. zip (or close to that). If you use an unzip utility you should see a bunch of cspeechxx.dat files in there. Extract them to some location (temp folder, maybe?) on your hard drive and then move them (using Explorer) into your Western Europe folder on your unit).

But, and a big but...............

You MUST have the space on your unit to handle all you have there plus these speech files. You may not. If not, 2 choices: get a 4 gig sdhc card and move 1 map (and speech files) onto it and keep all your other stuff on internal memory or don't copy the speech files for countries you don't think you'll visit (for a while anyway)

Without a backup!!!!!!

Anway, I'm sorry but your only chance is to call TTSupport and see if they can make them available to you somehow. I still don't know what map version you are talking about but maybe they can help.

Well, how long have you had your unit? If less than 30 days AND you have not received updated maps with the Latest Map Guarantee, you should be eligible for map ugrades -- for BOTH NA & Europe to the latest, which is 7.20 for each.

Other than that, I don't know of any legal way (other than by TomTom) to get the files.

Ye I've had it less than 30 days, but when i try to update it says I have the latest maps!

That's why you have to CALL (not email) Support. You will likely have to provide a bill of sale with a scanned copy, fax or photograph and they should make BOTH NA & Europe 720 maps available. Do NOT accept it if they say you are only entitled to NA. Ask for a supervisor, if necessary. Be polite but firm.

AND.........

Get yourself a 4 gig sdhc card. The size of both maps is too much for internal memory. Plus, others have discovered that you'll need to put one map on the card with its speech files and the other on internal with its speech files to make VR work for both maps.

I got it off ebay.... it was still in its plastic wrapping, and unopened will that be a problem ?

It could be .... if you paid by paypal, you should have an electronic receipt. The problem is that TT does not consider ebay a legitimate reseller, so they may not agree to furnishing you the maps.

Good luck!
