Voice options not working - 950T

I just bought my 4th Tomtom (950T) and was exited about it until I tried it. This is not working the way I wanted it to and the problems are voice recognition and recording your own vioce.

The voice recognition options are grey and not clickable. When I make a shortcut to navigate to a spoken adress it says "speech recognition files not installed". I have never seen this before and it worked out-of-the box on my previos 930T. Any ideas on what I need to do to get it to work?

I also have a problem with recording my own voice. When clicking the voice meny there is no option to record your own voice as it says in the instruction manual or as it was on my 930T. What can I do to get this to work?
(No, I don't want my own voice - my kids have recorded them earlier and I want to use those) :D

Use Explorer to see if you have a bunch of csspeechXX.dat files in your specific map folder. They are necessary for voice recognition.

Also, try a manual navigation by selecting city (and making sure you have the proper country selected), then the city etc.

Finally, try a reset on the unit.

(Have you tried the VR commands on your unit for menu items?)

There are no csspeechXX.dat-files in the any of the maps (Europe and Nortg_America_2GB)
Manual navigation works just fine.
I've reseted the unit with no difference.

I have the folder "customervioce" saved from my old unit and i guess I have the csspeechXX.dat-files as it works on that unit. Is it possible to just copy those over to the new unit?

I think a better approach is to call customer support and ask why the necessary files for your device did not come with the unit. After all, the 550 series in the UK is advertised as having Voice Recognition.

While you have nothing to lose by copying over the files from a previous device backup, it's doubtful that they'll work.

Tell me this.....can you tell me the version number of the aplication installed on your unit?

Here you go.

Prg 9.026.483443.1
OS 473972
GPS v1.20
Boot 5.5259
Map EUrope v845.2702

I'll call customercare today and see what they have to say.
Thanks.

There is an application 9.026 NOT meant for TTS. You may have that by mistake. Yep, give them a call.

speech recognition not installed on my tomtom 950T

Hi guys!
I have got my GPS tomtom 950 as a gift. I went through every thing exactly as it was asked on the manual and of course through tomtom official web site. Apparently the speech recognition file is not installed on my unit. I tried every thing I could, reset the GPS changed the voices and so on but it is still not working and the icon is not active at all
Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

Use Explorer and look iside your specific map folder. Do you see a file called cspeech_DEN.dat ?? (or close to that?)

You need that for Voice Recognition to work. You also need a simple text file called support_asr.dat with just a 1 in it, no spaces, carriage returns, etc). This file goes in the asr folder.

Note the extension must NOT be support_asr.dat.txt.

Voice recognition on tomtom 950

I have seen the file in the ASR folder and it is in right order however I don't see cspeech_DEN.dat file. Where should I locate it...is it in Europe map folder?
I have also contacted tomtom customer support and they recommended to reset the GPS and then add the same file
(support_asr.dat ) as you mentioned but the file was present in the ASR folder. Any more idea to fix this??
By the way, I am also a proud Canadian living in Sweden.

Thanks for your help

Resetting the unit will NOT add the appropriate cspeechXXX.dat file.

Look in the appropriate map folder (Europe?) and that's where they should be found for the country you require. Do you see any at all? (They will have 3 letters where you see the XXX above; the country should be able to be determined from the abbreviation.)

If you don't see them, another call to support will be required and ask that they provide a link to get the required files.

I actually checked for the file that you mentioned, cspeechXXX.dat file cannot be located in the Europe folder.
I have contacted again for solving this issue. I will come back here to report it to all if something came up.
Anyhow, thanks again for the help.

Did you ever use the "Latest map guarantee" in Tomtom HOME? If not, try to use it now.

The maps that are downloaded via LMG should have cspeech files in them.
