Voice Feature

I am new to TomTom so maybe someone can clear this up for me.

After reading this forum I was under the impression that the U.S. Go 720 did NOT have the voice address feature. That in fact you had to drop the "Support_asr" file into your TomTom in order to activate this?

The reason I ask is because mine had this out of the box when I bought it Monday.

A few of the most recent 720's released to the North American market did indeed have VR (voice recognition) without the need for the support_asr.dat file. TomTom later said it was a mistake in the factory and these units were actually meant for Europe, where VR was always included.

Like dhn stated, those units that did have the VR included out of the box some had the feature removed with a firmware update. What firmware does your unit come with?

App 8.010
GPS: v1.21, Boot 5.4106
Maps: 8.10

I bought my unit earlier this week. It was a refurb from Radio Shack online.

I am really impressed with the TomTom line so far.Had a couple weird directions from the unit but that's what Map share is for

I just convinced a buddy to get one, a 730 unit. they are going to come in real handy!
