VIA 280 wont let me type

My Via 280 will not let me type words due to the letters being faded out, how can I fix this?

Is the battery fully charged?

Also, try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds unless your model has a dedicated reset hole.

Lastly, under settings-->safety, UNcheck 'Show essential menu items only when driving'.

Am curious - into what fields (what 'menu') are you trying to type, and what do you mean by 'faded out'. Are the letters 'grayed out' as though the unit does not want to accept input at the time?
Help us understand how/when you were trying to type letters.
