TomTom Model(s)
Via280
I have just purchased a Via 280 and want to download some new maps for our upcoming holiday. I have downloaded mydrive connect to my laptop, logged in (I already have an older TOMTOM) and then plugged in and turned on the Via 280 to link it to my current account. The device is being charged via the USB cord, but the computer is not recognizing the device. I plugged my old device in and it recognized it straight away. What should I do. I am inclined to return it and get another branch, as we travel very soon.

First concern -- did you use the same email address to register your new unit as you did your old one? If so, that will become problematic soon enough. All TomToms require a unique email address for registration, even if it's not a real one. Sorting that requires some help from customer support to unwind the link between new unit and old email address.

Your device may be recognized by your computer, but may not appear as you are accustomed being a user of the older generation. Take a look in your PC's device list for an additional network card. Yes, that is how it will appear to your PC since your new TomTom is actually a little mini-server of sorts. If the PC sees the device as a network interface, then we can pursue any reason that MyDrive might not be behaving. What OS are you running?

Add on:
Once fully charged, switch off the device then connect via USB to the PC.
The PC should make a "connected' sound and your device should power up.
