I just got a Verizon XV6900. My contract was up and I was preparing to go with another carrier after I gave them one last try. It is one of the PDA type phones and has the ability to access the internet. I had a friend pair his Verizon Blackberry phone to my Rider2 before I got this phone so felt that I should be able to find something. What I found was that, although the Blackberry phones would pair with it, Verizon would not let it out of the store with out a $30/month internet connection. This is just one more policy to hold their customers hostage. From what I understand, in most other places in the world you can buy any phone and use it with any carrier. Yea, you have to spend the money for the phone but these free phones are not actually free anyway so at least that way you can hop from carrier to carrier with out hand cuffs.
Anyway, the XV6900 is being phased out and is one of the last that you can get with out the internet charges. Since I didn?t really care about using the internet on the phone, this allowed me to continue with the phone plane I previously had which meets my needs. I can still add internet at a later date if I decide I want it.
The phone paired with the Rider2 in the store but when I got it home I could not get it to actually let me make calls. After jumping through more hoops than a circus poodle with both Verizon and TomTom (both of which were absolutely no help and who both eventually told be that it wouldn?t work) I finally got a friend who is much more savvy than me about this stuff to help me. His Garmin paired with the phone after a few tries and then finally I got the phone, the TomTom, and the headset to work together. I have yet to take it out on the road but it works here at the house. What a hellovaway to run a railroad!!
