I just upgraded my 510's SD card to 4GB (Hopefully extending the useful life of my 510) and then installed the latest map of North America 7.15. I tried two different SD cards. One from TopRam: 4GB 150X (Did not work with TomTom, could not even format the card). I also purchased one from Transcend (Just a regular SD card, not a speeded up card like the TopRam Also do not use a SDHC card, I heard they will not work with TomTom). Card was already formated, but I formated it again with Windows XP and then I installed the voices, map, etc. Amount used on card 1.62 GB, FREE space 2.11 GB. Lots of space left for more voices, new maps, if larger than the newest one, splash screens, etc. So far it's working well, I will be road testing it tomorrow. Will post my results after the road test.
:)

I use a Transcend 150x (non SDHC), it works fine for my Go 510.
Do not use XP to format your card (it insists on NTFS, I thinks). You have to format it as Fat32.

I too upgraded my GO 510 to the new NA maps....

....but put the new map/s on a 2 GB SD card and installed more voices and POIs and splash screens and added color variations for the maps....and still have a bit of room to spare. :)

But the one thing that I did notice is that when it starts up it welcomes me to my GO 710 even though it is a GO 510. What's up with that??

Currently up to date with map corrections the last time I hooked it up to my Mac.

Did 60 mile trip, no problems!! Noticed no changes in performance! :)

Windows XP can format in FAT32 or NTFS. Just choose from drop down menu, when in the format screen.

GO710 & GO510 are the same unit, GO510's were sold in the USA. The GO710 UK (I believe) only. TomTom Home changed the unit to a GO710 on one of its Firmware updates.

GO 510 morphed into a GO 710:

This just happened with the installation of the new North American map/s. As long as it keeps on working, I'm not complaining :D

I still get the occasional "Unable to store settings: File access error".

See this post: http://tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=7925

And, yes, I've used the "flash tool" more than once but I still get the above error so that is not a fix for it.

Have you tried a clean install (Reformat the 510 and then do a reinstall with TomTom Home, not from Back-up)? Just a thought.

Thanks but.....

A reformat and then a clean reinstall could make the unit unusable since I have no idea how to go about it. Nah. Not worth the risk.

But thanks for the suggestion. I subscribe to the idea of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

My 510 (now a 710) works just fine with the exception of that error message that pops up occasionally.
