Updating XL 340 S

So I just got one of these for Xmas. I've got 2 questions. Thank You in advance.

1. I've read many horror stories of people bricking their systems because the new map wouldn't fit in the system. What's the correct process for upgrading to a new map? I've already done the back up both through the Home program and via dragging the files manually to my hard drive. What's next? Should I delete the old map first?

2. Is there upgrade to make the computer more understandable when it speaks the street names. It seems like the computer garbles up half of them. I found it much worse than the Garmin I had previously.

1. You shouldn't have to remove the map folder. Make sure if the install does go to completion, that you disconnect the unit properly from the computer afterwards and make another Explorer backup.

These days, it always helps to remove all computer voices so you have ample space before installing any map. Then you can add the voices back in manually.
