Update Issues

Friends i am trying to do my very first update on a TomTon XL 340S and it always fails at the china.gif on install. How can i get past this to update the GPS ? Any help would be great.

I gather you are trying to update the application on your unit. If correct, make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. Once that is done, remove all the loose files in the root of the unit, NO folders or their contents.

Then download the new application again from here.

Use WinRar to extract the contents of the cab file to the unit, overwriting when prompted. See if that helps.

It appears the installation error reflects the lack of creation of a dumb flag file that you'll never need or use anyway.

exactly, all of this because of one china.gif It is the only update left to do and it is the biggest so i want to get it done. Thanks for the tips and i will try them in the afternoon.

run a chkdsk /f on the Tomtom drive, then delete china.gif on the drive. After that home should install fine.
