First, don't ever buy a refurbished unit. I did (130S) and discovered that the maps were 18 months old and it doesn't come with the latest map guarantee the way a new unit does. So there's another $80 which makes the total cost a good deal higher than retail for a new unit.

Second, after paying for new maps, I discovered that the update wiped out all my favorites. I found another thread in this forum that says you need to copy a cfg file before doing the update and restore it afterward. That's just plain silly - that the update can't save your favorites - I wonder how many other things got overwritten.

The more I deal with this company, the less impressed I am with them. Everything seems designed to get you to constantly spend more money to get what you should have gotten in the first place. I think that next year, this 130S is getting donated to a worthy cause and I'm getting a new unit from "the other guys."

A little research prior to your purchase would show that 'refurbs' are not eligible for the LMG.

That said, some with refurbs do indeed get the LMG after calling support at 866-486-6866.

Some report that with the latest application, favourites are saved when the new map is installed.

I did. It doesn't. At least it doesn't on the store page where the unit is listed. Something that important should be prominent not buried somewhere in the FAQ (which is where I did find it after considerable searching - reminds me of Arthur Dent's problem with his house being torn down).

I did; they didn't.

"Some report" is not the same as "it should" or "it does". And since I have an older unit that does not have the latest application, I don't know what the latest application can or cannot do.

I actually like my 130S. I bought a basic unit to do a basic job - I just got messed over in the process and I want to warn others not to make the same mistake.

I've got no problem saving the CFG file and restoring it afterward - now that I actually know to do that. And again, I want to warn others not to make the same mistake.

But taken all together, my experience leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
