TomTom Model(s)
GO 51
When I tried to use MyDrive Connect (version 4.2.11.4200) today, it asked to be updated. The attempted update resulted in version 4.4.0.5040 appearing in Windows "Programs & Features", but the update apparently didn't complete. At the end of the installation an error message appeared to the effect of TempMDC.lnk has no application (see attached screenshot). Also there is no longer an entry for TomTom or MyDrive Connect in the Windows Start menu. Uninstalling the program, downloading a new copy from TomTom and installing from the downloaded package produced the same symptoms. I would like to update my GO 51. How can I get a working installation of MyDrive Connect?

Thanks for responding, but the copy I downloaded from your link is bit for bit identical to the one I had downloaded earlier. Nonetheless, I tried installing it from a local drive (my previous attempt was from a network drive), but the results were the same. My only antivirus is Windows Defender. There was a post on the Microsoft site complaining about problems installing MyDrive Connect that were due to Kaspersky. The MVP who responded suggested switching to Defender instead, claiming that it wouldn't cause any problems. Just out of curiosity, I ran the installer with real-time protection in the "Virus & threat protection settings" turned off, but the results were still the same.

Sorry, this is my only Windows PC.
The link you give above is for MacOS, but I have read the corresponding article for WIndows and didn’t find it helpful.

The link was for MacOS because i called it up on my iPad. When I called it up on my Windows PC it showed the instructions for Windows. To be absolutely certain, I followed the instructions again, with the following aberrations:
  1. There was no MyDrive Connect icon in my notification area.
  2. There was a TomTom directory in my AppData\Local directory, but none in my AppData\Roaming directory.
The results are still the same.

For the benefit of any others experiencing similar problems, these instructions from TomTom support helped:
1. Close MyDrive Connect completely.
2. Make sure there are no TomTom related processes running in task manager.
> The Task Manager can be found by pressing the keys Ctrl+Alt+Del and then selecting Task Manager
3. Uninstall MyDrive Connect via the Control Panel
4. Delete the TomTom folder from the Program files.
> Go to Start and then My Computer/Computer/This PC
> Delete the MyDrive Connect folder from C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86)
5. Check each username profile (marked as <username> here) and make sure the TomTom folders are deleted from the following locations:
> C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local
> C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming
> C:\Users\<username>\AppData\\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
6. Press the Windows Key + R to open the run window.
> Type in %temp% then press OK. Delete as many files from this location as possible. Some files can not be deleted. This is normal.
7. Restart the computer.
8. Create a new Administrator account in Windows.
> Create a simple username, for instance TomTom, with no spaces or special characters (like â, é, ë etc.).
9. Log out of the current account and log in with the new administrator account.
10. Reinstall MyDrive Connect.
> Go to http://www.tomtom.com/getstarted.
> Download MyDrive Connect.
> Go to the download folder, right click on the file MyDriveConnect.exe and press run as administrator.
. I was unable to follow them exactly, because the URL http://www.tomtom.com/getstarted resulted in a 404 (“page not found”) error.

However, I was then able to complete the installation with a previously downloaded copy of the installer (see link earlier in this thread).
