TT1 #rd Ed. Question

You'll need to be a little creative to restore the icon...

How can you make a Itinerary using the 3rd Ed. TT. I don't see a Icon for Create Itinerary.

Be sure to read through all of the included replies to the linked reference article below. There is some important info there that explains what happens when you install that menu customization. You WILL have to trade off some functionality to get what you want. However, the changes you make ARE reversible. If you remove the .mnu file, don't forget to also remove the sdkregistry folder.

BACK UP YOUR TomTom FIRST!

That's a nice link. We should make it a sticky, as the question comes up so frequently.

As for the lost functionality, it's really only the 'Help' function (which I can live without.) Map corrections are still there: 'Browse Map' 'Blue Cursor'.

I created a write-up for this on my WebPage of Goodies that you may want to bookmark for future reference:

>> Customizing Menus <<

I even have a pretty all-inclusive menu file that I created that you can simply download and install in the /SdkRegistry directory:
>>> TomTom.mnu <<<

To do this, you need to know how to copy and paste in Windows using the standard Windows Explorer.

1) Download my custom menu and unzip it to your desktop
>>> TomTom Custom Menu <<<
2) Plug in your TomTom and turn it on
3) Open up Windows Explorer
START -> ALL PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> WINDOWS EXPLORER
4) Click on the Drive in Windows Explorer that is your TomTom Device
5) Create a folder on the TomTom called SdkRegistry (make sure the 'S' and the 'R' are capitalized)
6) Copy the resulting TomTom.mnu file that you unzipped in step #1 above into the SdkRegistry folder you just created

That's it!

Safely unplug the TomTom, turn it off, turn it back on and the TomTom will automatically look at the TomTom.mnu file and you'll be using the custom menu.

Thanks, I've been working for several days and when I get home I'll give this a try... Thanks to everyone else for the help also.

Thanks Birdman! I finally took the plunge and did this, because I really wanted the itinerary planning feature, but didn't want to do the extra steps of finding how to edit POIs. But it really isn't that much of a pain, and I'm ready to start the itineraries!

Excellent! Congratulations and happy route planning...

Birdman,
Thanks also for the MultiTT fix. I was having great trouble trying to move a POI on the map. The TT kept telling me that whatever POI I was moving wasn't allowed to be edited. Now, I can keep the TT in the default menu mode for everyday driving, and when I want to go on a trip, I can switch over to the custom menu and plan from there.
Thanks!
Also, does mapshare work if the TT is in the custom menu mode?
Steve

p.s.: I guess that it is OK that you're a PSU fan.....

You're more than welcome....that program really helped with a lot of issues, especially on the 3rd edition. Mapshare should work no matter what menu you have the TomTom booted to as TT Home is looking at the operating system when it uploads/download Mapshare info.

"We Are...Penn State"! :D

I am sorry but I didn't see a change on my TT. I followed the instructions. Am I missing something here? Is there a special location for this custom menu?

I have a TomTom ONE 3rd edition.

I've added Birdman's all inclusive mnu as 'TomTom.mnu' to the SdkRegistry folder. I see the icon "Itinerary Planning" when I tap the screen, but when I try to load one (which I've copied three the 'itn' folder) it doesn't see any itineraries. I must be doing something wrong.

Also, I no longer have the icon to 'delete route', but have about 5 'mobile phone icons'. I think 'delete route' is important, otherwise TT is going to keep giving me instructions to 'Turn around'.

Maybe TomTom in their latest OS upgrade deleted some functionality of itinerary planning for the 3rd edition? Because I can even create an itinerary.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you just recently see an OS upgrade that caused this issue and you had it working before, or is this the first time you are using the custom TomTom.mnu file?

No, this is the first time I tried using the custom menu. I just added it today. About 2 weeks ago there was an upgrade to the application (OS?) that TT said was a minor fix for the 3rd edition units. So I'm wondering, since other folks (with 3rd editions) could get the itinerary working, I was wondering if this upgrade is causing the problem.

I even tried the menu from the GPS Review site here:
http://www.gpsreview.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=15797

...with same results. When I click 'itinerary planning' (get Itinerary empty) then click 'options'; then 'load itinerary', it says none are found. If I search for one that I know starts with the file name "To so and so addy", it doesn't find it.

Also, I think I see in your menu that you offer, 'delete route', so was surprised not to see that icon. Here's part of your menu...

  • MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_MAIN|BTM_GPS_POSITION|
  • MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE1|Main Menu 1 of 4|
  • MENUITEM|TASK_NAVIGATE_TO|
  • MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_FIND_ALTERNATIVES|
  • MENUITEM|TASK_CONFIRM_DELETE_ROUTE|

Oops.... edit, edit.

I feel like a dummy. The 'clear route' is greyed out because I didn't have a route planned. Sheesh!!

AND, the itinerary I copied over I was sure I changed the extender in 'note pad' to 'all files' and then added the 'itn' as a file extender. But what got saved was test.itn.txt. So that fixes where TT finds the itinerary.

I was getting the intinerary with google.maps -- moving the start and stop points slightly to generate lat/lons, then using this site:

http://houghi.org/tomtom/
and pasting in the URL from Google.maps. Worked somewhat, but the TT didn't take me the route I had layed out. Only the start and stop were correct.

I'll have to play around with Google maps some more.

Thanks Birdman.

I'm glad ya figured it out, Rick. I was a little stupified as to what might be going on..... Have fun! :)
