I have a TT One 2nd Edition (USA version) and I am trying to update the GPS fix after not using the GPS for about 4 mths.

I am running:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Malwarebytes 1.50
NOD32 Antivirus
TomTom Home 2.8.1.2188

TomTom Home does not start automatically when I connect my TT One to the computer via the USB cable and when I do start TT Home it looks for updates immediately but does not find any, the Abort button flashes on and off twice during this check, now whether that is indication that there is a problem with the Home software or not I don't know.
I'm trying to give as much info as I can into what is happening.

Can anybody assist me to get my GPS to update please.

I've seen this happen a lot before and have a simpler fix which usually does the trick....

Go to the internal storage of the ONE itself and open the "ephem" folder.
Delete the entire contents of that folder (usually three files called: ee_meta.tlv, ee_meta.txt, and lto.dat)

....leaving the folder itself still there.

Then go to the folder on your PC that Home uses for storage of downloaded items (usually C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete) and find the "ephemeris" folder.
Delete the entire contents of that folder (which will be lots of sub-folders called "QuickGPSfix", "QuickGPSfix-1", "QuickGPSfix-2" etc)

....leaving the main folder itself still there.

Then connect to Home and you should find the Quickfix downloads work again.

Well, you can start fresh. Download the freeware version of Revo Uninstaller from here: Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

and completely remove Home 2. Then get a fresh copy of Home from here:
TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - _TomTom HOME

Also reset your unit (I don't know whether your model has a dedicated reset hole or if you need to hold the power button for about 10 seconds till you hear the drum sounds).

Anyway, try that.

G'day dhn, I have uninstalled TT Home using the latest version of Your Uninstaller, I also removed the files inside the ephem folder as suggested by Andyp.
I also reset the GPS via the pin hole in the bottom above the SD Card slot.

I downloaded a fresh copy of TT Home and installed it, reconnected the GPS to the computer and TT home will still not update the GPSFix.

Any other suggestions Thanks?

And you did clean out the ephemeris folder on your computer as Andy suggested?

C:Users/username/Documents/TomTom/Home/Download/complete/ephemeris - everything in here deleted on both PC & GPS.

I have even changed the way ESET NOD32 filtered TT Home and that didn't make any difference either.

I gotta believe it is either a firewall or an anti-virus issue, Peter.

I am reluctant to say to disable the anti-virus because you shouldn't have to and it ain't safe, but.................

I bit the bullet and turned off both Malwarebytes & NOD32 and tried to update .......... still no go!

Really stymied now..........

Any chance you can use a different computer and try again? And can you try to run Home 2 in XP compatible mode?

dhn, we loaded TT Home onto my son-in-laws Windows 7 machine and the GPSfix updated the first we connected the GPS, so I made a backup, then removed the ephem files and tried it again .............. :mad2: :mad2: ...... yeah! it failed to update so I had to do a restore.

There must be some glitch in the software and Windows 7 SP1 64bit that's all I can put it down to, my son-in-law does IT networking for a company here in Australia and he is stumped too as to why it is acting up.

I seem to remember some users using XP emulation mode on their Win7 boxes to get HOME to work. Have you tried that? Just a thought.

An odd thing - running an INSTALLER in XP mode isn't a bad idea, either. I've seen some applications fail because files were not being placed into identical structures under Vista or Win7 compared to XP during the install.

Apologies for the late reply my whole family has been down with vomiting and dysentery including my little 12 mth old Grandson who had to go to hospital for an injection to stop him vomiting, we are all on the mend now, thank goodness.

Back to the TT problem.
I ended up solving my problem by replacing the current Ephem an old backup copy and it has updated twice already, no problem whatsoever.

Now, as to the erratic problem with the screen about 10 days ago, it too has solved itself, so it is all good for the moment.

Thanks to all those who contributed with their suggestions, I hope my solution may help others down the track as well.

Update!

I ran into the same problem again today and solved it in the same manner.
The one thing that seems to be consistent is the missing lto.dat file (Lto.dat), I replaced it with an old one from back in 2009 and now my QuickGPSfix is up to date again. :thumb: :D

It's weird that it happens to you but glad you know how to resolve the problem when it does.

It is weird dhn, I'm using TT Home v2.9.1.2780 and still using the same Win 7 (updated of course) - NOD32 and Malwarebytes, I have even bitten the bullet and turned off NOD32 & MWB's to no avail.

How the lto.dat file keeps getting removed is beyond my PC knowledge, at least I know how to solve the problem now though. :thumb: :D
