TomTom Model(s)
One 3rd edition
I bought a TT One 3rd edition just under a month ago at Future Shop. I've used it on a recent trip to Washington State and Oregon and it seemed to perform quite well. However FutureShop (in Canada) just placed the LN730 on sale at $50 less than what I paid for the TomTom. Now, I don't mind paying a little more for a better quality product but weighing the pros and cons I'm tempted to return the TT and try the LG. Looking for some opinions:

TomTom
Pros: LARGE user base (you guys) This is a very strong plus in helping to solve problems, get 3rd party apps. Long(ish) history in the GPS market. Easy to use.

Cons: Horrid, horrid tech support, TeleNav maps and Global Locate Chipset. These may or may not be cons but despite the recent upgrades to the map prevailing opinion is that the Navteq maps are better in North America. They dropped the itinerary manager and manage POI's forcing a hack to get them back.

LG
Pros: Navteq maps, SIRF chipset. Good history of making quality electronics. SD slot, plays music and photos. It's big brother got a very good review here:

Cons: new to GPS, no user community, only one voice, speaker is reportedly tinny.

Thoughts ?

Further info on LG vs TT

Spoke to LG this morning. The LN730 comes with the 2006 maps and no free map update service. Next version is due in Jan 2008 and will costs $149 US. Given the product is on sale for $199 Cdn that doesn't make much sense.

Decisions decisions.

My TomTom One took a ride on the roof of my car a couple of months ago. With it gone forever, I decided to cheap out and get the Mio C220. Compared to the TomTom's speaker, the Mio is basically whispering. I hated it. So I sold it and am, like you, debating the TomTom and the LG. And the #1 thing that is turning me off that LG is the speaker. Probably doesn't help you much, but if you're used to that gloriously loud TomTom speaker, you will really be unhappy when you have to turn down your stereo and roll up the windows to hear the prompts of the LG.
