This really bugs me: Why TT cannot preserve your Recent Destinations or your Favorites when a new map update is downloaded. That should be an automatic function, IMO. Is there a plausible reason why they don't do this?

Try copying the mapsettings.cfg file from your (older) backed up map to the specific new map folder using Explorer. Then connect to Home and run the emulator (Operate my unit) and make a change to one favourite by adding one, deleting one, editing one.

Remove the unit properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

Restart your unit. The stuff should be back.

Also, have a read through this thread including a link near the bottom on how to convert your favourites to an ov2 file.

That's the best way for sure, but the whole issue with a map update wiping out your favorites is pretty silly. Makes this function pretty useless.

BTW is there as easy way to save a favorite as a POI entry?

I copy and paste the old mapsettings file, but concur that this is a bit of a Mickey Mouse way to handle upgrades by Tom Tom. Would it really be that difficult for Tom Tom programmers to resolve this silliness?

A few models (140, 335/340) that have application 9.022 apparently can retain their mapsettings.cfg data from map to map. For the rest of us, unless and until TT distributes that code to applications for our models, it remains necessary to use the 'kludge factor'.

Just a little alternative. If you make a new category _My Favorite, this category will be the first on your category list. Now you can save any favorite to this one category. Then with this and any map update, it will never be deleted.
