I am somewhat new to the world of GPS and I have done all my updates and backed them up and all. Will road test latter on today!

Of course there is an SD that was empty. How can I best use an SD and should I begin using one?

I purchased some 4GB memory cards. Any also have some 1GB cards as well.

This may seem simple----but any directions and or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I too am new to the tomtom, however what I have found is that you need to copy the program and the maps to the SD card, so in otherwords, the tomtom uses either the SD card storage or the internal internal storage. It will not use both, so if you have a 1GB SD card there is not much point in using it since the internal storage is also 1GB.

If you want to copy all the data over to a 4GB card, I did the following:

remove all SD cards and connect the TomTom to the PC.
allow it to connect to the PC
close the HOME software and open My Computer
Select the TomTom
Copy all files and folders to your hard drive
Install SD card in TomTom
copy all files from hard drive to TomTom

Thanks for the info webracin!

So in essence it allows for more storage capacity?

Depending on what version of maps you are running and how many personal POI's , you can have around the following

US/Canada 705.....about 50MB free
US/Canada 710.....about 75-100MB free
