TT 335 S Problem

I recently got this TT 335 S, worked fine right away, then came the update... After several attempts to update (they all failed) I got things to stick, restarted the device the correct way and the screen froze.

I read up on how to fix it, it says to delete the application and re-install so I did that...about 27 times all with the same outcome...nothing.

Through all the deleating and re-installing the map that came with the device was lost, I had purchased a updated map but its too big for the device (would have been nice to know before I paid for it) So now I have no maps on the device because there is not enough space.

At this point making a backup is pointless because there is nothing to back up...

Is there a safe way to wipe everything out and just restart??? If I reformat via my comp, when I start everything back up will it act as if its a new device?

Need some help in a major way....

If you have the updated map, it should be found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\maps\

If so.........

Format your unit. Do not use quickformat.

Connect to Home and accept the application it offers. Disconnect the unit properly from Home (use the Device Disconnect icon). Turn off.

Turn unit on and reconnect to Home. Move to Manage my Device-->Items on Device. Remove all non-English voices and all computer voices.

Move to Items on Computer-->Map and install.

In Home, move to Add Voices and add back a computer voice.

Shut down Home, including running in the background. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup.

Yes I found that map and made sure I kept track of that and backed that on onto my computer.

Forgive me I am not the most computer savy guy out there...By saying format, would going into "My computer" and right clicking the device and select "Format"?

I beliebe I understand the rest of that you are saying, I will be sure to test that out as soon as I am off work.

Thank you for the quick responce, I loved this device for the short duration I had it working and look forward to having it back up and running. I will let you know as soon as I try this out.

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear.....that's how to format. Don't use quickformat (and, if you are given a choice, select fat32)

I dont remeber exactly since I didnt get to mess with TomTom Home much with my device acting up and limiting what i could do, but I dont ever remeber seeing in Manage my device an option to install map from there... I know the map was in there but I didnt see the option to load it from there.

Also do I need to erase all the voice files on the device before installing the map? or just the non-english ones and non-english computer voices?

When i go to update, there is an option for an application if 1 is available and my map I purchased. The problem was before that could have the application, voices, different car icons and other assorted files that are pretty small in size, it didnt matter if all of those files were on my device or not there wasnt enought space on the device for the map.

Is what you are instructing me to do going to make it so everything fits.

Not trying to be a pain just making sure I understand you all the way :)

Use Home's Add Maps for the map. (sorry for the confusion).

I'd delete all the voices and make sure the map fits. Then you can add back voices using Home.

I got it working last night following your instructions, everything worked perfectly, except that downloading the map takes forever, and it never works the first time, gets all the way to the end and fails, but once it stuck things were smooth.

Thanks for your help
