trip statistics

Welcome to TTF. Don't waste your time looking, they're not there.

There are 3rd party applications available (Tripmaster for one) that can be added to many models such that you get that functionality. Look in the 3rd party application forum on this site.

Problem is that the author of that program worked his magic to make it work with TomTom applications 8x but I don't think it works for those models that have application 9.x running.

Thanks for the quick answer dhn - the news is disappointing- I expected a trip computer to be an essentiial function of a gps-

Not so sure about that, DHN. His web site (at Le Web Bazar !!! Tripmaster !!!) says "v8.x or v9.x compliance" for the patch file. I think the OP is good to go.

To the OP: Find Tripmaster at the link above. Select the download that is indicated by "Download This Version" AND the necessary patch file indicated by "Program for Tomtom v8.x or v9.x compliance".

Thanks canderson, that sounds great.

I haven't discovered the version number yet - checking the details in Home shows this

Is there anything there that tells the Version number?

I read through the page at the website, as per my post in 3rd party apps - I would like to get a basic overview of what to expect. perhaps ypou wouldn't mind explaining a few things please?

Did I read correctly that tripmaster can be set to run in the background and so leave ALL the usual Tom Tom features?

I also read the audible speed warning has to be turned off - is that still true for v9 and is that just over the limit speed warning or also the 'safety' cameras?

The audible speed limit warning is very handy day to day when driving in the 'known world', when not needing directions.

Can it corrupt the system and leave me stuck with no working machine?

Is using 3rd pary apps OK with TOM TOM or to be kept quiet about- re warranty etc?

I am good with file transfer, conversions etc - just unfamiliar with what to expect.

The 340XL has no external memory, I hope it can hold all the extra data. looks like it is currently half full?- " IL #1: 'Internal Memory' 1702 free/1958 total MB Block Size 32768 Media Name 'InternalMemory' "

sorry for all the questions

The application version number on your unit is shown in the 3rd last line of what you posted:
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9026

You can also find the version number by tapping the satellite bars on your unit. The next screen shows the version number installed.

Yes. There are also some interesting options about when tracking turns on and off that you'll want to pay attention to during configuration.

I haven't ever used the audible speed warning on my unit, so I can't say what is necessary there.

I have never heard of one of his applications bricking a unit -- it's not that easy to do that to a TomTom since its open architecture lends itself to being 'repaired' easily. Just be sure you have followed the recommendation that is repeated time and again in these forums about making a full Windows (or whatever you use) backup of your unit with hidden files included. Once you've got that backup, we can help you reconstruct from just about anything.

They don't gripe, and they're fully aware that these are out there. TT actually used to produce an SDK to help the developers with their application development, but don't now. Still, a lot of what "was" still "is, so the boys have managed to keep up with each successive major point release of TT firmware -- but it was a bit painful moving from 7.XXX to 8.XXX. They did it, though.

Installation is a piece of cake, but do get that 2nd ancillary file that is mentioned on the download page. It's a patch that gets the author over some strange tweaks that TT made to the UI having to do with video display.

You can decide how often tracking information is recorded, and you can probably also trim out a few things from your existing configuration if need be. For example, you can take all of the voices on your 340 except your favorite computer voice (like my dearly beloved Susan aka Suzie) and just keep them on your PC for future reference but off your TomTom where they aren't being used and are just taking up space. You'd be surprised how much we can trim down your contents if it comes to that.
