Is there software available that will allow me to map out a trip and download the route to my TT? I have noticed that many times, TT does not choose ?short-cuts? I normally take on some of my long trips. I would like to have some way to tell TT to take a particular route including many short-cuts I have found.

If your TomTom has itinerary planning you can do it right on the TomTom by setting waypoints along the route you want to take.

There are utilities that convert MS Streets and Trips, google earth, google maps, autoroute etc. into TomTom itineraries. POIConverter is one of them.

Some find it easier to creat the itineraries on these packages instead of the smaller screen of th unit itself.

I've found that some of the "shortest routes" are rediculuous for time. One destination has me taking a street instead of a highway through the length of a city with a population of 600,000. The traffic is horrendous on this street. I can take another route that 8 miles longer and much faster. I need to program that route into my TomTom so I can let someone use it to get to a certain destination in a limited time period.

I downloaded Tyre and planned two trips which I successfully downloaded to my TomTom. They displayed the routes correctly in my TomTom. I find using more waypoints prevents some funky routes being designed.

I made a trip destination to work to test out how well things work and to make adjustments to my TomTom before I really need to use it.

Between Tyre software and Tripmaster software, I got the functionality of my TomTom that I need.

Its best not to use shortest route unless you're traveling within the same city. If you're traveling bewteen cities, then use fastest route.

Navigate uses your current position and routes you to your destination.

The prepare route allows you to choose both a starting and end point. This options is used to see what route the device gives you to prepare for a trip.

YES YOU CAN USE THE ITINERARY FUNCTION BY CUSTOMIZING YOUR MENU WITH THIS PROGRAM - http://www.gregoryduncan.com/ttmd/index.php

HOWEVER, YOU WILL LOSE SOME OF THE NEW COMMANDS THAT NAVCORE 7 OFFERS SUCH AS MAP CORRECTIONS OR HELP ME BECAUSE THESE OPTIONS ARE NOT KNOWN YET.

IT'S A COMPROMISE.

Ok, I'm done shouting! :p
