hi all i'm new too the forum,i was wondering are there any updates for my tomtom,i'm looking too add bridge heights if there is any.

many thanks drew :)

The latest application for the unit is 9.430. I don't know of anywhere you can get bridge heights on a non-commercial (or Caravan) TomTom model.

There are a number of bridge hights available to download as POI from home2. I've used them for a number of years with no problems.

Just search POI for uk or type in bridge hights to the search box on the download POI page

PocketGPSWorld (the speed camera database people) do bridge heights in their "premium" POIs. They'll probably be better than anything free from Home 2.

Unfortunately, bridge height POIs won't be ALL that much use.

there's no way on a TomTom to create routes that AVOID a certain POI type. All you can get it to do is warn you as you're approaching a low bridge. (by which time you're already probably going to cause chaos trying to turn around!)

Although Andy there is truth in what you say, if used as an aid the BH POI works fine. ie when route has been planned tap to view map of routes. then tap find/poi. along route, use required BH poi eg 14.6, the bridges show in different colours complete with their height orange = not on route, green = near route & blue is on route. if you find that you have a blue lower than truck hight reprogram route to avoid this part of route. I have been doing this now for at least 5 years (using ex home poi) and have had no problems. its the same principle as using the BH maps of old. you just need to check before starting journey.
can't comment on the Pocket poi's as I've never used them.

Seems a lot of manual work.....

I can see you can use "avoid part of route" but there's no easy way to get from seeing the problem POI on the map to choosing the right part of the route to avoid.

So far as I can tell, you'd have to remember the road name from the map, then exit through the menus back to Find alternative / Avoid part of route, then find that road name in the list of directions.

A bit clanky, but do-able..... But what happens when there are TWO low bridges on your route? There's absolutely no way to avoid TWO parts of the route are there?

If you got it to recalculate the route once to avoid the first bridge, and then did your checking process again and asked it to avoid the second one, there's nothing to stop it recalculating back so it goes past the first one!

One needs to tap avoid part of route NOT recalculate. True this may take a little more time if you have more than one low bridge on route, however, better a few extra minutes doing this than finding the bridge whilst driving. Common sense is the name of the game here. We must not rely on technology completely.
