I recently bought this via Amazon but there was no documentation or disc in the box. Is this correct please?

No, of course not, you should have gotten the complete package.

That said, here's a link to your unit's Reference Guide:

and you'll need to download Home, the software that interfaces between your unit and tomtom. Get it here:

Must be different in the US...
In the UK I don't think there has been a CD in the box for years.

And I'm pretty sure recent models only get a "quickstart" poster instead of a full manual.

For example, "in the box" of the Via LIVE 125 Europe is:
Micro USB cable
USB Car charger
Documentation - Contains Quick Start Guide, Accessory/PLUS leaflet and TomTom Safe Driving leaflet.
