TomTom XXL 540TM World question

I bought a tomtom gps in the US (as a gift), but it will be used in Europe and I noticed on the package it says the "IQ routes technology" with this model will only work in the US, Mexico, and Canada. This is a feature I would really like to work while being used, so I was doing some research and found that the TomTom XXL 540TM World model comes with European maps already loaded, but I couldn't figure out if the IQ routes technology would also work in all European countries. Could someone more knowledgeable about the products clear this up for me? Thanks

I used my 540 WTE in Italy last July. IQ routing worked there.
