Hi,

I just bought a TomTom XL 340 from Harvey Norman. After updating everything from TomTom Home I went outside to try and get the route for a trip and it just stayed on "Planning route..." with "waiting for a valid GPS signal..." I left it for 20 mins and then tried over and over... and still nothing...

I also tried clicking on the satellite icon and configuring it to degrees... still nothing...

I also tried holding the power button until it reset and it didnt work.

And i tried removing and reinstalling the QuickFixGPS thingy...

Any help would be appreciated...

Use Explorer to delete everything in the ephem folder on your unit. Then, go here: C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\ephemeris\ and delete any sub folders you see in there.

Connect to Home and a new gpsfix file should get downloaded & installed. See if that helps.

If not,tap on the satellite bar, then in the next screen tap the sat bars there. Is the little yellow ball circulating on that screen (beside the UTC reference)? If not, there appears to be something faulty on your unit.

Thanks for the advice. I tried everything and it didnt work, so I took it back to them and they gave me a new one which works perfectly. Thanks for your time. :D

Waiting for Valid GPS Signal - success story

Thanks for the advice. I tried everything and it didnt work, so I took it back to them and they gave me a new one which works perfectly. Thanks for your time. :D

I've had my TomTom XL since '07 and it's never had trouble finding a GPS signal. Last week, for not apparent reason, it stopped picking up the signal. After reading many threads on this forum and trying many suggestions posted (none of which having worked for me), I deleted the application on my device via TomTom Home loaded on my laptop. (Manage Device-> Items on Device tab -> Applications -> select TomTom Application for ONE XL -> hit delete button at bottom of screen. Then power the device off, wait about 30 seconds and power it back up. You'll be prompted to load the latest software. Once I completed the 're-installation' everything works fine again.

Thanks, that worked.

I appreciate you for taking the time to write this. I just did it on my wife's 330S and it worked perfectly.

Just one question for the manufacturer: WHY doesn't the TomTom website tell you how to do this?
