TomTom XL 2
Hi guys,

Ive joined up on this since i am experiencing problems with my Tomtom XL 2. The device is brand new and as soon as i got it i put it on charge. Its been on charge for hours so took it off.

When i switched on the device it showed the low battery symbol however when i clicked the bottom right of the screen on map view the battery was full.

Any ideas ?

Strange. The unit is meant to run connected to a charger. But keep an eye on things. You did say it was new so it is under warranty.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it does seem a bit strange. Ive looked at it again today and the same is happening. Just to recap when i turn it on it slows a low red battery however when its on and i click the bottom right of the screen on map view it shows a full battery.

Has anyone else had problems like this ? If so what was the solution ?

Cheers again

Unless I am misunderstanding your model number, you may have an unused unit (from somewhere), but I don't think your model is "new". Is this an XL IQRoutes2 model? Those were being produced back in 2010. None of this is to say that 1~2 year old lithium ion battery should be failing so soon, but as dhn says, do keep an eye on it if it's still under warranty. We haven't been seeing many premature battery failures on XL models. They were pretty solid (compared to some later models, anyway).

Hi yes it is the tomtom xl2 uk and roi iqroutes2. I bought it on amazon so might well be older. Is there a production date or something on it ? Another thing, I will rarely use it - how can I best preserve the battery.

Best way to preserve a lithium ion pack is to store it at about 50% charge. Storing it for extended periods in either 'empty' (which it never will be, quite) or 100% state will reduce the life of the battery.

No telling about production date, exactly. After cycling it just a couple of times through the charge/discharge, it would be interesting to know how long it will run on battery power alone. If you see 2 hours or more, you're in really good shape.

Thank you. I shall update this thread accordingly.,
