Hello guys,

I'm not saying TOMTOM would do it, but maybe if we insist in the idea TOMTOM will create a portable unit that will offer back up camera. It should not be that complicated to add a wireless camera to the device.. That would be amazing :D

It's definitely been suggested. That said, it does require some additional hardware to convert an RS-170 camera signal to something that can be displayed on the LCD screen, so it won't be free.

It does not matter if its fee or not, but it will be amazing to have it. If some cheap gps systems have it on eBay it should not be a problem for tomtom

Backup cameras with 3.5" screen have been selling here for CAD 99.00 for the last 3 years.

The cameras send to the screen wireless.
The problem is powering the camera cheaply if the license plate and backup lights are not within the same design element.
(SWMBO's minivan has the plates on the lift gate, backup lights are in the fenders.)

How many screens are you going to have in the car? The nice thing about a gps with backup camera is that you can have all in one

If money is of no concern to you why not buy one of the upscale cars that give you the in-dash GPS/Backup camera option for a measly CAD 5,000.00-8,000.00.
That screen will even incorporate function for the entertainment system +.

Yeah, but for all that, the GPS functionality still won't be as good as a decent TomTom, and good luck with the price of those annual map updates!

I will tell you why Arno.. The issue is that there is no available adapter yet that allows to keep the voice command button in the steering wheel. Yes, there are adapters that allows to keep the volume, skp,rwe , etc, but non of them allows to keep the voice Comand control. Furthermore, when such adapter it's available I wil be the Sony unit that comes with tomtom maps, but not until then because when you upgrade something you should gain stuff not lose. One last thing, the best units on the market don't cost over $1500 + installation
