In December 2024 I was investigating whether I would be able to update the map in my old Go 6200. I say old but apart from an aging battery and being a bit behind with the latest new roads it worked fine. As a preliminary step I tried to update the software using the website. Unfortunately the satnav never worked again, getting stuck in a reboot loop so rapid that even a factory reset was not possible. TomTom offered me a repair at a cost of 105 Euros. A month of arguing with TomTom ensued and all I was offered was a 10 Euro discount.
I’m not impressed. It’d be one thing if TomTom had said it’s too old for a software upgrade - fair enough. But it’s another for them to start an upgrade that ruins the device and expect me to pay for its repair. Customer service also poor, going over the same ground again and again, and rarely getting a reply that had considered the previous responses properly.
TomTom is the only brand I have used but I’ll be going elsewhere next time after this treatment.
