TomTom Model(s)
Start 50
I want to update my device but it says not connected when I connect it to my PC. I'm using MyDrive Connect which has worked in the past. I've tried 2 different cables, both of which are in very good condition. Any help would be appreciated. Only 2 days ago, I updated a different Start 50 without problem.

You say it doesn't connect?
It turns on when plugged into the computer?
Maybe it's the mini jack on the GPS side that's faulty?

When I plug it in to the USB port on the PC, it switches on. It's as though the software doesn't recognise the device.

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button until the device reboots. Hold the button until you hear the tom tom sound.

I just tried that, but unfortunately no luck. The other unit connects without problem. Perhaps it is a faulty port on the unit. I'll keep trying. Many thanks indeed for all your help.

Unfortunately, it made no difference. I think the unit is still usable and runs of the cigarette adaptor plug but it just can't be updated.

Yes, I already tried that, but no success.
It's strange that when it's plugged in to the PC, the unit switches on and it can be charged but when it comes to the software recognising it and data transfer, no joy.
I wonder if somehow data has become corrupted and stops it from communicating with the software. If this is the case, is there a way of hard resetting the device and reinstalling a map?

So, if one or both of the pins for transferring files is damaged on the unit, it's game over, I suppose.
Could it be the software on the unit which is corrupted? is it worth performing a recovery on the unit?
