TomTom One XL GPS Signal Issues

I was in the mountains this past week, my unit was working fine, then all of a sudden it froze up, reset itself, then couldn't get sat signal. I left it on for 2 days in and out of the truck, still nothing. I watched the GPS Sat Graphs and it was finding up to 9 or so sats, but it wouldn't get a strong enough connection to work I guess. I reset it with a pin and updated on my comp when I got home, still nothing.

Here's the screwy part, I was playing around with it in the TomTom Home app, and if I go to use my device in TomTom Home, and play go to the sat graphs in the app, it's got full signal on 12 sats, with it bouncing around a bit, but it's active and working. Why isn't it working when it's not connected to my PC.

How recently prior to your mountain trip did you get a gps quickfix download?

the day before

The satellites you see when Operating My Go on the computer are, as I understand it, really just a simulation, not the real thing.

If you still are not getting a satellite signal when undocked AND you are in a clear location where you should be AND the pin reset didn't help, you may want to try the option to 'restore to factory settings'. If you do that, be aware you will need to re-enter all the settings you made in various screens.

well, I turned it on again this morning, played with it some more, and behold it's working again, I have signal off 7 sats, and it's working. What I don't understand is the last 2 days it said it was getting up to 9 Sats, but the sat bars stayed grey but the bars were full, now they are blue, but not as strong of signal. Stupid thing

It's possible the most recent gps quickfix you installed had faulty data in it and threew things off a bit. It's been known to happen.

I mentioned this on another thread that since downloading new gps quick fix in the last month it now takes two + miles or over 5 min+ to see the TT pick up my location? It used to pick up the signals almost instantly when I first got it, I'm going to e-mail TT and see what happened....

be happy it's only two miles or 5 minutes, it took mine 3 days to figure out what the hell it wanted to do.

I have also noticed it taking longer lately to acquire Sats. I thoought it was just me. I wonder if we would do better to remove fix files?

Well I did it and sent TT an e-mail about this problem several days ago and so far as of tonite still have had no answer, had the same problem the other day when I fired it up, took over a good 5 minutes before it picked up signals:(
