My Tom Tom One 3rd Edition starts up as if it were connected to a computer (although it isn't) and then won't go beyond the start-up screen (hand pointing). The only way I can turn it off is by pressing the reset button on the bottom. Is is shot or can this be fixed?? I did connect it to a computer at home and it recognized it fine. I let it do updates but still it locks up!!!

Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. Then, format the unit, don't use Quickformat.

Restore the backup again using Explorer. See if that helps.

See here:

Then, after the backup......................

For formatting, in Windows Explorer, click on 'My Computer', then highlight the drive (under 'removable storage' that reflect the tomtom drive. In the Tools menu at the top, select Format.

MAKE SURE you are highlighting the drive that represents the tomtom drive and NOT the c:\ drive! Don't select 'quickformat' if that option is offered.

Then replace 'Explorer' with 'Finder' and, as far as formatting is concerned, select 'Dos Format'
