my tomtom one 125 recently decided it wanted me to do the inital set up again, and I could do everything fine except when I went to select the voice, the device would freeze and restart, bringing me back to the initial language screen. The tomtom support site suggested deleting the tomtom application from the device then reinstalling it. I was able to delete it, but now tomtom home will not recognize my device so i can reinstall the application. I am stuck with a red X every time i turn on the device. Vista recognizes the tomtom as a tomtom and I am able to access all the files. Help!

Thanks.

Do you have a backup (hopefully with Explorer) prior to the problem taking place?

If it was done by Explorer, I have no clue where you put it.

If you did a backup using Home, probably located here (or a similar path):
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup\GO\Backup01\InternalMemory

You can try this.

Make a complete Explorer, not Home backup of your unit's contents now. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Once done, use Explorer to delete all the loose files in the root of the unit, NO folders or their contents.

Connect the unit to Home and you should be offered an application for your unit. Accept it and let it download and install.

Disconnect your unit PROPERLY from the computer Use Home's Device Disconnect and wait till your unit reboots before shutting it off.

Restart the unit and see if things are ok.

If so, make ANOTHER Explorer backup to a DIFFERENT folder on your computer.

No I do not have a backup. And the thing is, I can access the tomtom through "my computer", but Tomtom home will not recognize it. This means I am unable to install the application through tomtom home.

Edit: So i delete every single file that is not contained in a folder?

Okay, follow these instructions CAREFULLY: [Home is NOT involved. Don't have it running]

1. Make the Explorer backup as I said. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

2. Download the compressed /cab file for your application. The link is here. Save this cab file on your computer somewhere (a /temp folder, perhaps?)

3. Use Winrar to extract the contents of the compressed .cab file to the unit, overwriting folders and files when asked).

4. Disconnect the unit PROPERLY from the computer using the the SAfely Remove Hardware icon in your notification area (bottom right of the task bar).

5. Restart the unit. Is it working? If so, make ANOTHER Explorer backup.

Welll no more red x! But now I am back to my original problem of the device freezing whenever I try to select a voice from the menu...I click select. It freezes for a few seconds the restarts and brings me back to the language menu.

Edit: I operated my one through tomtom home and was able to select a voice there! Works perfectly now... Except this isnt the exact software version i had before. Thank you so much for your help!
