TomTom Model(s)
GO1005
Hello,
First post - hope this is the right section of the forum. I have a new Go1005 and am trying to download a set of speed cameras as a POI. With my older model, I would see the attached Tomtom as a storage device in Windows Explorer but with this new device it's showing up in Device Manager as a "Network Adapter" rather than a "Disk Drive". Realize that this might be more of a Windows question than a Tomtom question, but has anyone else had this problem and have any recommendations for changing the device type so I can load the POI files right to the Tomtom?

I am running WIn 7 Home Premium SP1.

Thanks in advance for any guidance - am feeling naked driving without my alerts! :)

That device, like all Nav 3 device, indeed shows as a network adapter, not an external drive like the older Nav 2 devices did. You use MyTomTom (get it at tomtom.com) with the 1005. Not Home.

Once you do get MyTomTom and connect your device to the computer, an additional link in the desktop icon will be 'Add Community content'. Click that and a new screen in your browser opens. That's where you can add custom poi files and other stuff.

You can also use this tool:

Although you are not in the UK, I wrote some instructions for adding speed camera files (and real voice spoken warnings for them) to the newer models on the PocketGPSWorld site. You can find them here:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-tomtom-nav3.php

The new "MyTomTom" program that replaces TT "Home" uses whatever web browser you normally use to display the screens and some people who use Internet Explorer find they cannot select several POI files to upload all at once.
this can make it a very long and slow process, so there is an alternative method where you just upload a single zip file. Instructions for that method are here:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-tomtom-nav3-zip.php

I'm not sure if you can access those pages without signing up to the PGPSW website or not.

I do know they have extensive camera data for Switzerland, which might be worth looking at too.
