Been a navigator user for few years, just got the new TT One LE from BB. I have the latest USA maps 710.1575.
1)They havent added new streets in the town of bartlett, il
2)The I-80/I-94 split going from Indiana to Chicago isn't shown and it can get hella confusing if you don't realize you have to take an exit.
3)Someone in another thread mentioned the new I-355 toll way in Chicago.
99% coverage? My butt!

btw I compared "1)" recently as 3 days ago on my uncles Garmin nuvi and they had all the streets in bartlett, il. It is basically a new subdivison but its been there for 3-4 years. So It is NOT THAT NEW.
It irritates me when you think about it that 3-4years down the line they still haven't updated their maps but say they are. Just makes you wonder what the real changes in these "map updates" actually are.

OH Btw, I mapped the above on google maps using navteq maps and its there.
TomTom clean up your act now that you got tele atlas on your back pocket.

Cannot fully disagree with your observations. My residential street (phase 2) has been completed for over 13 years and my map, (which is the latest version) deos not show my own street being completed... so when I go home I drive in the woods!
Last October I submitted a map correction hoping that the new version would have it.. Nope... So, I now updated my 910 to include the map share... and submitted it that way and today I submitted the error on the teleatlas web site... So I think I have all of the based covered! We'll see what happens...
Other GPS devices which I have seen have my street completed including Garmin, Magellan.

So I feel for you, but at least my impact is lesser than yours!

Maybe that's why it's called LE? I don't know. I'm running v660 maps and it's a mix. Some of the really new roads and POIs are listed yet some of the older ones aren't.

It really depends on what TT tells TeleAtlas to put it and leave out in order to fit TT's unit (e.g. the 1GB space for the ONE, the 4GB for 720 etc).

Yes, TeleAtlas actually have to make different map versions. It sucks. I mean, a navigation system needs to have the best maps available. I don't know if reducing the memory size and stuff for a lower price is worth the reduction in map quality

I was wondering if you can elaborate more on your item #2.

I have the same map version as you and I don't see the problem you describe. The exit at the split appears normal to me. I used to commute that route every day for 10 years and I'm just going from memory. I have not driven it with my TomTom so can't say for sure.

But just browsing the map on my TomTom, the 80/94 split "looks" fine.

As far as Chicago expressway issues, I-355 has only been open for 3 weeks so updated maps are going to take a little more time.

I agree with you that it's kind of a mixed bag of versions... although I don't think mapping omissions (roads) are intentional to save space. I also agree that the level of detail could vary between device models memory sizes (i.e. US vs North America). I just don't believe that the "loss of detail" necessarily translates into loss of roads. General sloppiness & other errors would definitely translate into missing roads.

I'll admit that I could be wrong but imagine TeleAtlas having ONE database (now at 710) for the roads in a region. Then I think they'd have other databases for various non-road features, points of interest, basic density of development, etc. Then from that set, they can generate any sub-set of maps at any required level of detail but they'd all still contain the same "basic set" of roads from 710. That's just my opinion of how it would work.

I just can't imagine TT or TeleAtlas intentionally leaving off any part of an expressway. After all, the paved roads, expressways, & ramps are the most critical part of a GPS device designed for safe automobile travel.

The old split is shown on the TT

I investigated this issue on Google maps.

It appears that Google maps shows a slightly different ramp configuration than I remember from my commuting days. The exit now comes up about a mile sooner than it did before and the cloverleaf at Torrance Avenue has been totally removed.

However, when I switched to satellite imagery it was obvious that these ramp and expressway changes are recent. In fact, the new split doesn't even exist in the satellite photos yet.

So TomTom maps match the old satellite photos and Google Maps is more up to date with the new changes there.

I've reported this to Tele Atlas directly.
