TomTom insists I take the L O N G way

My TomTom One suggests that I take a very long, indirect route when I know there's a much shorter one available.

Specifically, driving from Scappoose, OR to Hillsboro, OR, heading south on Hwy 30, TomTom suggests driving all the way to I-405, then doubling back on Hwy 26. The most direct routing is to turn south on NW Cornelius Pass Rd. This road is in the map software, and as soon as I turn onto Cornelius Pass Rd the route is quickly recalculated and takes me directly to Hillsboro the correct way.

Is there a way to correct this in the software? For some reason the algorythm doesn't "tell" TomTom to make this turn and cut 20+ miles off the route.

Thanks!

Does your model have IQ routing? If so, longer may = faster as far as the IQ routing data embedded within the map.

If not, what settings do you have under planning preferences? Perhaps there is something there?

Finally, no gps is going to top local knowledge some of the time.

Unfortunately, tomtoms don't have a 'learning mode' as some Garmin's do. But, you can use 'Avoid part of route' when the planned route is first established.

A rather draconian measure is to block a road and block the road you don't want it to take .... but do NOT share that mapshare change with others. The tomtom will then not consider the road you wish to avoid.

I've mentioned this before, I put a route in Tyre (from google) to get to my son's house which works perfect taking back roads, when returning to home it wants me to take the long way, so I decided to rather than use the fastest, tried the shortest, wala, it took me back the same way I had come for the most back roads route, it messed up on a hwy off the interstate which I didn't take and of course it rerouted once past that road and took me straight home, so you might try "shortest" and see what happens...........

Thank you

My planning preference was on Fastest, so I changed it to Shortest and will see what happens. I might not be along that particular route for a while so I won't know if it solves that specific problem.

Thanks for the two quick replies to my first question!

That is odd as the TomTom Route Planner (one of the options in the HOME software) does those 18.7 miles in 30 minutes this morning.

(URL enlarged the map, so I re-did it. Now that morning traffic starts locally, it has become 31 minutes!)
