TomTom Model(s)
XXL550TM, VIA 1535TM, XL340.S
I have 2 installers for tomtom home on my computer. Version 2.11 and version 2.21. Only on can be installed at a time. The version 2.21 is pushing a mandatory (can't uncheck) update (navcore 9.541) for the XXL550TM that I don't want to install due to limited memory and no guarantee tomtom will offer a map that will fit. I backed up the gps to tomtom home version 2.21 so I can restore it but can't install anything else unless I install the update.

Version 2.11 of tomtom home has backed up data I'd like to preserve from another XXL550TM that no longer works. The version 2.11 of tomtom home is also pushing (navcore 9.541) but I can uncheck the update. I'd like to use tomtom home version 2.11 but do not want to overwrite the files. The features appear checked off in tomtom home version 2.11 from the XXL550TM that no longer works even if I login with a different user name. The old data wasn't transferred from tomtom home version 2.11 to tomtom home version 2.21.

The backed up files from the two devices are in two different folders on my hard drive. Tomtom home created the two folders and the sub folders contained in them. The old files I'd like to preserve from tomtom home version 2.11 are in a folder named tomtom. The XXL550TM I have now is backed up to tomtom home version 2.21 and is in a folder named tomtomupgrade.

Does anyone know the best way to preserve the data in the tomtom home version 2.11? I'd like to use it without overwriting the files. Thanks.

Updating to version 9.541 is mandatory so you have no choice
just like installing Tomtom Home to the most recent version.

If you don't want them, don't connect your GPS to Tomtom Home.

Normally if you have a backup of your map on your computer you can reinstall it on your GPS by copying and pasting.

I think copying the folders named tomtom and tomtomupgrade to a thumbdrive should preserve the files in them. Even if the files in the folder named tomtom used by tomtom home version 2.11 or the files in tomtomupgrade used by tomtom home version 2.21 are somehow overwritten I'll have a copy of them archived.

Now I need to see if tomtom's server will communicate with tomtom home version 2.11. The advantage is not being forced to update to navcore 9.541. Even though it will fix the WNRO issue the navcore file is large and there's no guarentee tomtom will offer a U.S. map that will fit.

BTW: The behaviour of tomtom home was unexpected. It may be an anomaly. Normally the folder and subfolders and files used by the application would have been available from one version to the next.

I just happened to have a few different copies of installer versions available. When I didn't see the features from the older/damaged XXL550TM in tomtom home version 2.21 on my desktop. I reinstalled tomtom home version 2.11 using an older installer and the files from the older/damaged XXL550TM were there.

The tomtom home application shows where the features files are stored. That's how I found the folders named tomtom and tomtomupgrade and realized the files from the older/damaged XXL550TM were in it's own folder associated with tomtom home version 2.11. Tomtom home version 2.21 created it's own folder that didn't include the files from the older/damaged XXL550TM.

As far as I can tell so far you can't have more that one version of tomtom home available on the desktop at a time.

It is not the folder created by Tomtom Home that you need to paste.
This is all the files including the hidden files from your GPS that you need to copy to your computer.

I have show hidden files and folders selected. I have a full backup up of the XXL550TM already copied to a thumb drive and in tomtom home version 2.21.

And a full backup of the old/damaged XXL550TM in a folder on my hard drive when it was new and a more recent backup of it and it's features in tomtom home version 2.11.

My thinking is to backup the gps files stored in the folders currently in both versions of tomtom home in the event they get overwritten and however it may be that I would ever need or want to use them.

C:\Users\ABC\Documents\tomtom

Upon checking the properties of the tomtom folder / size = 10.5GB

Try not to laugh. 🤯

I'm going to have to figure out what I really want to backup.

If you check the /download/complete folder, you may well find a wealth of old map folders, etc.

The tomtom folder is isolated to tomtom home version 2.11. For some reason the files weren't merged into tomtom home version 2.21. When the tomtom home version 2.21 was installed it came up empty.

I thought some of the files from the damaged XXL550TM stored in the tomtom folder associated with tomtom home version 2.11 might be used on the XXL550TM gps that works. As I looked around to try and understand what happened I found the folder named tomtomupgrade. Tomtom home version 2.21 created it when it was installed.

Tomtom home version 2.21 was installed from the executable downloaded from the site. I think if it were installed from a prompt when opening the old version of the app on the desktop the old files would have merged into the new version instead of creating it's own folder.

In this situation it's probably easier to update this gps to navcore 9.541, install a U.S. zone map and back it up using tomtom home version 2.21. The files from this gps will be in the tomtomupgrade folder.

I'm waiting to hear back from tech support to see if a U.S. map is available.

Before you use Home, which overwrites the last back up make a Windows Explorer complete device to PC back up into a new folder on your PC.

I copied all the folders and files of the XXL550TM that works to a thumb drive.

I did as a matter of fact.

There are two folders:

One named tomtom (tomtom home v.2.11) that contains all the folders and files from the damaged gps.

And another folder named tomtomupgrade (tomtom home v.2.23) that contains the backup of the working gps I made after I realized the safety cameras stopped working.

Can I copy any of the folders and files from the tomtom folder (tomtom home v.2.11) and paste them into the corresponding tomtomupgrade folder (tomtom home v.2.23) and use tomtom home v.2.23 to install them on the working gps?

Or just use the old tomtom version v.2.11 to try and install the some of the features from the damaged gps into the one that works?

I'm trying to figure out what I can and can't do with these things, i.e.; what's transferable and what isn't.

What I don't understand is why you still want to use Tomtom Home to transfer files from one GPS to another.

Experimentation. Curious to see what can and cannot be done to this thing. I never really experimented with it. I didn't update the one that broke in years and hardly used the one that works.

The BIOS says it has 64MB RAM and three clocks operating at 264.0 mhz,132.0 mhz and 66.0 mhz. I'm guessing the first one is the system clock (cpu), the second the memory, and the third the rtc? Maybe it was the form factor (size) and power requirement considerations that went into the engineering design decisions. The thing is awfully slow and lacks memory. It's my impression it was obsolete when it was designed. MMC NAND version (prv): 10 Samsung.

If that's all you had it was still better than a Rand Mcnally map sprawled across the steering wheel driving through an unfamiliar place at night in bad weather with a fogged up windshield.
