I noticed a lot of people having the same problem as me - the TomTom HOME application crashes when the TomTom device is connected to your Mac. I have an XL Classic/XL IQ Routes 2 but I suspect this solution will work on other TT devices.
Here's the solution that worked for me : Re-format the TomTom device volume (shown as 'INTERNAL' on my desktop) using Mac's Disk Utility (select 'MS-DOS FAT32')
(If you are nervous - It's easy to make an exact copy of the 'INTERNAL' volume anyway so nothing to lose)
After I did that it connected immediately to TomTom HOME and downloaded all the TT system/updates/maps immediately with no problems.
Steps -
Quit TomTom HOME application on Mac
Open 'Documents' folder and throw away (or drag into a different folder) the 'TomTom' folder
Connect TomTom device to Mac and look for 'INTERNAL' volume on desktop
Back Up 'INTERNAL' (if you want to keep any custom files etc) using 'Duplicate' or Command-D
Open Disk Utility and and Erase 'INTERNAL' volume using MS DOS (FAT)
Start TomTom HOME app
Click on 'Update'
After all updates are done you can drag across any custom files from your 'INTERNAL" duplicate back-up folder.
Hope this helps if anyone hasn't found this work around yet.
Cheers, Neil
