I have a tomtom XL 340 with IQ routes. I updated this thing in November, and recently tried again. Ended up with NO maps. Tried the support phone number, but still can't download the map i have bought (USA/CAN/MEX) because the server keeps timing out. I have to go to TX for an Army school in 2 days. Does anyone have a map they can email to me??? Or some thing that will solve this would be GREAT right now. BTW, I did not know I needed to back up the device, so nothing to go back to to restore it. Thanks...

Unfortunately, it would be far too big to send by e-mail. You'll probably have to send the unit back to Tomtom. You can set up an account (login name and password) at the link below, then describe the problem to Tomtom support. The only good news (depending on what part of Texas the Army school is in) is that Tomtom's return RMA address is on the north side of Fort Worth.

Is the map stalling on the download or the install?

If the install, you should find the map here:

c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\

and you can install using info here:

Not to mention it would be a waste of time. The maps are keyed to a specific unit serial number. You can't share maps.

dhn has the best suggestion, above. It's entirely possible that the map is on the PC, and can be retrieved and installed.

If you have a newer computer with Vista or Windows 7, the top level C:\Documents and settings has been replaced with C:\Users. The rest that follows is the same. (There might be a "Documents and settings" folder also, but it's locked.)
