When loading a route I get loads of white stars on blue backgrounds practically covering the whole map route. How do I remove these to just show the route please.

Cropped sample below.

Wouldn't it be your favorites that you added to your itinerary?

If they are your favorites you can't hide them the only solution to no longer see them is to delete them.

I can’t find any favourites options to add let alone delete.

If you press the + or if you launch the route you should not have so many icons in the same place...

These are your favorite places that you added so I don't think deleting them is the solution.

@Monty1
On your 620, go to the menu, My Places.
Scroll down. Surely you have a list of 'favorites' there?
If so, I have a recommendation for managing these differently in the future that we should discuss.

Argh, I know what you’re talking about now. Yes , I have a long list of favourites/saved routes.

Right then. Here's my recommendation. Collect them all into a POI file, and call it _favorites.ov2.
Are you familiar with TomTom POI files?

I assume you already have your GO 620 linked to an account at TomTom (email + password)? If so, you'll want to become familiar with the TomTom planner at https://plan.tomtom.com. If not, go to plan.tomtom.com and start up an account using the same email and password you use on your 620.

Let me show you you how to upload the POI file there first (yes, I know you don't have a POI file yet, but let's do this first anyway so you can see how it's done):

You start at plan.tomtom.com with an account that uses the same email and password as your GO 620. Log into that account at plan.tomtom.com and make sure your device is also logged into the TomTom system.

At plan.tomtom.com you will see this in the upper left. Click on the 'hamburger' icon:

Plan 1.jpg

That will bring up a menu of several choices. Select "My items"

Plan 2.jpg

Here's what My Items looks like then

Plan 3.jpg

Now that your device and the plan.tomtom.com systems are able to talk to one another, I suspect you will find, after your Home entry, a LARGE list of 'favorites'. It is those that you will eventually be deleting because they will show up on your map every time you have moved your 620 map to an area that includes them.

Next, you'll need to click on the "POI files" button (not so obvious as a button!) on the right side of the "My Items" window, above, which brings you screen shot below, understanding that your list will be empty since you've never uploaded a POI file to the plan.tomtom.com site before. From here you can do several things. First, when you DO have entries here from uploading a POI file, the triple dot on the right gives you the option to either delete the POI or download a copy of it to your PC (in case you've lost the copy you've uploaded, I guess).

But what we want to focus on at the moment is the "Import OV2 file" button. That will open a window that allows you to navigate around your PC to wherever you've place your created POI files that end with an *.ov2 extension.

Get familiar with this, and next we'll show you how to create a TomTom POI file.

One more thing to note in the box below ... Do you see that entry called _Favorites.ov2? Those are MY favorites, all collected in a batch. The entire reason for doing this with you is that you can tell a GO 620 to either display or NOT display the contents of a POI file on the map. So you can 'turn on' and 'turn off' your favorites whenever you like if they're stored as a POI file rather than a having a large collection of individual 'favorites' displayed on your map all the time.

Let me know when you're OK with what we've outlined so far, and I'll get you started on your first POI file. It'll be a little tedious, but you'll only have to do it once.

Monty, it was probably more trouble than it was worth for Canderson too, but he took the time to help you. But maybe not time wasted though, because other people, like me, have learnt something they didn't already know about POI files. Thanks Canderson. A lot of us really appreciate the time and effort that you and Willy875 put in for this forum. You both are awesome.

If you're interested in creating a POI file (from your favorites or whatever other sources), let me know and I'll provide that end of the equation as well.

These old x20 and x200 vintage units were the last that supported custom POI of any kind, so they can be really handy to have around if your use model takes good advantage of the feature. This includes the GO Classic models whose serial numbers start with a G, the Premium models whose serial numbers start with Z, and all of the Supreme/Essential/Truck(Pro) models whose serials start with ZE, ZF or ZN.

After that, TomTom decided to abandon this feature which they had supported since day 1. Still have no idea why.
