TomTom Go problems

Hi all
Can someone help me. I tried to update a freind tom tom go, which he has never updated in over five years. I have set up his own account tried to update his device but nothing seems to get downloaded. Since trying to update the tom tom He now has problems finding a signal for about 15 min when he turns on his device.

I would think after having it for that long and plugging into TomTom on the computer it would have a lot of updates, especially GPS Quick Fix, that's the key for getting it lock into the sattelites and making the proper disconnect when done, make sure after all the updates are done and go up on top of the screen and click on device then disconnect device and watch the bottom of the screen on the TT and see a yellow line go across, when that happens a note on the computer should show up saying it's ok to disconnect device.....

Over five years and it's a TomTom Go? Perhaps it's not quite that old. But I'm not sure the original Go series can use quickfix updates. Can't say I've ever noted it. Guess I need to brush up on my TomTom history.

I have tried to download from the update my device, my p.c detects an hardware device but wont download the updates. Could it be that the tom tom needs space to download the updates, if so should he buy a bigger memory card?

Can you tap the satellite bars and see the version number of the application installed, please. Now, tap the version number and the next screen shows the map version and build installed.

How old is your unit!!!!

You'll have to update some application updates before you'll be offered recent maps.

That map/app combo is from mid 2004. Back then the updates came on CD.

They just don't build 'em like they used to.

I have tried to update the applications from the update my device, but the tomtom wont download anything.

What version of TomTom home are you using?
You need to update the application that updates the tomtom, first...

TomTom home Version 2.6

I believe app 4.x was only available on the GO classic. The newer versions of tomtom HOME sometimes can't recognize devices with V6.X or earlier applications.

Try using winrar to extract this file onto the SD card and turn on the GO. It will upgrade the app to 7.163.

Home 2.6 should recognize the GO after this upgrade, and upgrade the app to v7.9 which is required for the latest maps/software.
