TomTom Model(s)
XL One, Go 5000
Do I need a smartphone/internet to navigate from A to B on a planned route on a TomTom Go like the old TomTom One Satnav's.
Used TT One in US with no issues and no roaming charges as would do so using a smartphone.

I assume you're talking about your GO 5000? Depends upon what you mean by 'planned'. Planned where? You have 3 choices.

The only reason you would need a phone/Bluetooth connection from the MyDrive phone app would be if you were using your phone to plan the route, or if you planned it on TomTom's MyDrive web planner and had forgotten to transfer it to your GO 5000 before making the trip.

Of course, you can always plan a route directly on your 5000 and drive it that way, too. No connection needed.
