Tomtom Go 740 and RDS TMS

Yes it will work with the RDS aerial, be aware though to use the RDS aerial that has the round plug requires an accessory mount with the required socket fitted, the Mini USB plug RDS device can be used with the mount supplied with your 740 - Mike

RE: 740.

Just got mine yesterday and not yet travelled. My auto power adapter has 2" long "lump" built in/attached to cable about 4" away from the mini usb connector. Is that the RDS antenna? For some reason I thought it was built in side the 740, but external makes more sense now that I think about it.

The RDS-TMC receiver is the lump you mentioned.

The 740 also has an internal cellular modem, which pulls it's own more detailed traffic data if you have a LIVE subscription.

Here in the UK the car charger doesn't come with this 'lump' at least on my Go940

As the 'active dock' has only one mini-usb socket would this mean that I won't be able to use the RDS-TMS and the charger both at the same time?

Thanks

There are a number of options for the RDS-TMC in Europe:

1/ Round plug receiver requires the accessory mount for the extra connectors, this mount is supplied as a windscreen sucker style or Brodit Pro-Clip style attachment.

2/ Mini USB style receiver which plugs in to the existing mini USB socket on the mount supplied with the device, the existing power addaptor is then plugged into a Mini USB socket on the side of the RDS receiver, this powers both the receiver and the device at the same time.

3/ Accessory mount with Built in RDS receiver, probably the neatest solution of the lot as it avoids all the "Spaghetti" aerial wires that you get with the previous two.

4/ A newer receiver combined in to the power lead, whilst this is listed on the TomTom web site I have not seen it available for sale as yet as a standalone accessory, again this receiver avoids a lot of the Spegheti mess in the cab of the car.

The above is fine for the x40 series, for the x50 only item 3 will work AFAIK - Mike
