Hello

I have been using this TOMTOM Go 710 for years now and my SD card stopped working.
I got a new one but i have no software or discs or backups.

How can i re uplaod some software and maps to my tom tom?
I cannot connect it via USB i only have an SD card.

Thanks

The most recent map that you were using on the 710, was it the original or a map update? If an updated map, it should be found here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\

If that is the case, you can download the application for free from Home and reinstall the map.

If you don't have a compressed map file in the location I listed and you have no backuo, then I'm afraid you'll have to re-purchase a map using Home.

I dont have any software isntalled for ages now.
I jsut used what was originally on the tom tom.

So i have to downlaod the Home software?
and buy a new map?

Thanks for fast reply :D

Thanks for quick replies!

I am getting all the software now. It was time to update the maps anyway- i guess im forced now

Thanks!

The home software says i must conenct my device via usb. but there is no USB port on my tomtom. I never had a usb cable or any adapter with it.
The car dock only has headphone, external antenna and charge.

How can i initialise my new SD card?

I got my friends SD card 256mb and put in to notebook with home- and it detects it as a device go510.

Can i use his files for my 710? and update it somehow.

?If i put his SD card in my tomtom the SD icon flickers and nothing happens.(obvios cause its another version)

I am not sure what to do now? I read other forums and all the forums say i need to connect the deive(other tomtoms not mine) via usb- back it up and then put the new card in and restore it. Then add the maps...

?

You cannot switch files between units. Do you not have a mini-usb connector that you can attach your unit to the computer? And perhaps you can use a card reader to install the sd card on

Well all i need actually is just a copy of somebody else 710 card onto mine.

Atleast my tom tom will turn on then to the menu leverl but he maps wont work on my unit because of unit ID difference- but at least it will detect in Home(if i plug SD card into my SD reader) and i can upload new maps i purchased without buying a USB dock.

I just need the base software/fw for 710...

Lucky me

I called around my firends and somebody had a 710 lying about and i copied his SD card contents to mine.

Home identifies (plugged the SD card in to my notebook) as 710.
It has done the applciation update, quickgpsfix, phone settings and some one time update..

But still.. my tomtom does not start.
You know where the animations shows (plug your sd card under there) without the sd card inside the tomtom.

I plug it in and the animation changes. But the SD icon just flashes like previously. .. . .. nothing happens.

Use winrar to extract the contents of this file onto a blank 2gb SD card (must be SD, not the newer SDHC), and then put the card into the 710 and start it up. The 710 will write more identification files onto the card.

Then put the card in your computer, startup HOME and it should offer to update the app. After it updates, put it in the Tomtom and start it up again (it might update the GO 710's internal firmware).

Then take the card out and repeat these steps (re-update the app in HOME, plug into the Tomtom, etc) until you get no newer application. You should be at app 7.903.

Once you've got app 7.903, you can purchase the map in HOME.

To avoid all the SD swapping steps, you can buy the GO 710 computer dock here.
