TomTom Go 710 will not accept Password

Try as I may, using reset, I cannot get past the Password stage. I know my password but my Go just won't accept it...vCan anyone suggest something before I bin it and buy a Garmin?
I have had this TT Go710 for years, and it just won't accept the 4 digit Password. Can this step be bypassed?

Have you been unable to apply the same solution as before?

With a unit this old, I doubt we have much to worry about regarding theft, but as you can imagine, we don't publish the kind of information you are asking about here.
Out of curiosity, what firmware version is your 710 running at present?
