TomTom Go 700 not booting up

Hi ,
I have a Go 700 which seems to have a problem running up and I am wondering if the hard drive is faulty. The unit boots past the initial drum sounds, then goes to the TomTom Go 700 screen for a minute or so then switches to the image with a finger pointing to a picture of a tomtom , it is at this point that it freezes. I have tried a 15 second pin reset followed by a 5 second power button which shows the data screen with memory capacity etc. Yesterday it did actually run up correctly then just died after a couple of minutes. If you connect a USB cable to it the screen changes and the computer detects something is in the usb port but "My Computer" does not show an additional drive. If the hard drive has bad sectors I guess it may demonstrate these symptoms , has anyone changed a harddrive in these or got any other ideas?
Any help much appreciated...

Hi thanks for the response, I have looked through all the info on the tomtom site but in order to resolve the problem I would need to be able to connect to the PC , unfortunatly HOME or My Computer doesnt see the device.

Can you try a different USB port?

Also do you have access to a 2nd computer to connect the unit to and see if Explorer 'sees' the unit on that one?

The purpose of the Clear Flash Tools is to help the PC SEE the device. You run the program, it will tell you when to connect the device and push the power button. After that, if the PC recognizes the device then all is good.
Linux boot loader (Grub or whatever) is sometimes oversensitive - it doesn't like you unplugging the USB cable when you love to, as you love to - should take some care.
