TomTom Go 700 Connection Problem

Hi all,

My name is Rob, I have a problem with my tomtom go 700 and hope some one can help me.
I updated my tomtom and all was well, then the next day I switch it on and it came up with a picture of the tomtom with a flashing red circle with a white cross in it and a picture of a hard drive at the bottom.
Now I can not get the Tomtom to talk to the laptop in any way, the message come up 'USB device not recognized'. It will not connect to tomtom home. If I could only get the pc to see it I format the drive and start again.
Please help if you can as I am going on hol's in 3 weeks and France is a big place!!

Try a reset on the unit.

If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the application.

Hi dhn,

Have tried reset holding it in for 30 seconds, still the same start up problem.
My problem is I can not get the tomtom to connect in any way, not thought tomtom home or Windows Explorer as mass media storage.
The message I get from Windows is 'USB Device Not Recognized' ' one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.'

Is there any other way to force a connect to the tomtom?
Is it possible to get the hard drive out of the tomtom and format/replace it?
Which hard drives are in the tomtom go 700? All I know is they are 2.5GB but do not know what form they are in (ie microdrive etc) or manufacturer.

Did you receive any useful advice on how to repair/replace hard drive in the GO 700?

I am experiencing he same dilema!

I have the same problem of not being able to connect to the PC. I get the exact error message. what did find for a solution?
