I've had a tomtom one 3rd edition traffic (internal 512mb memory) for a while and haven't updated it for a while,
i tried updating it on thursday and it failed, i tried again more times but again they failed

then all i got was either the start up screen or a red cross,

i contacted tomtom online and tried all the reset tips

none of these worked

so the next option was make a back-up and reformat.

i backed up the files but windows failed to reformat the tomtom...

now it looks like i'm stuck with a dead system...

any advice other than an odd shaped paper weight...

Does Explorer see the unit as a separate drive?

If so, right click on it, properties, check for errors on the drive. See if that helps.

(if it does and you can then reformat, the next step is to use Explorer to copy back files/folders from the backup)

it's there... but it calls in Removable Disc (E:)

Type: Removable Disc

File System: RAW

Used space: 0 bytes 0 bytes
Free space: 0 bytes 0 bytes

Capacity: 0 bytes 0 bytes

I am unable to check the drive for errors and i still can not format it

:(

Try to see if HOME recognizes it. If so, do a few cycles of disconnect and power off / power on. If it HOME can't recognize it, still do a few cycles of power off / power on / clear flash / pin reset.

I've seen this sometimes get the tomtoms to a state where windows can see and format it.

You are attempting a fat32 format, right?
